During a purchase or sales inspection of a boat, the entire vessel is inspected on many essential aspects. With an inspection you will gain an independent and reliable overview of the condition of your vessel. Assessment of the ship, before the actual transfer, will prevent legal conflict between buyer and seller. All defects will be listed in a detailed inspection report, providing you exact details about the condition of the vessel. Subsequently, you may take measures for repair or replacement, before the ship’s actual sale. With an inspection report, you can prevent a conflict with regards to the condition of the ship. After all, as a seller you have the duty to report any defects and as a buyer you have a duty to investigate.

What does an inspection cover?

A purchase or sales inspection consists of an extensive inspection, the vessel will be evaluated on her current condition. Overdue and future maintenance, faults and safety aspects will be subsequently be incorporated into a report. An inspections is including a sea trial. The report will include photographs and any videos recorded during the boroscopic inspection. With regards to the hull of a steel vessel, the inspection will be complemented with a hull thickness-measurement so you will know exactly what the skin thickness of the hull is. In the event of a polyester vessel, the inspection will be complemented with an osmosis inspection. The vessel will be visually assessed with special focus on suspicious areas of the superstructure and cockpit. Drainage, corrosion and delamination are a part of the inspection.

Essential aspects

Your boat will be inspected on essential aspects;

Hull and below the waterline: rudder construction, propeller shaft, anchor chain box, bow thruster and keel structure.
Rigging / deck fittings: attachments, chain plates, mast sagging and rigging condition.
Any sails, sprayhoods, cockpit tents, etc. are also assessed.
Steering system fastening: cylinder, end stops and wear.
Motor and drive: noise, leakage and temperates.
Interior: leakage, constructions, loose panels and moisture (non-destructive)
Fuel system: tank, hoses and filters.
Drinking water system: tank, pipes and (water) pumps.
Waste water system: tank, hoses and deck drainage.
Gas equipment: bun, pipe, hoses, emergency valves and other related parts. (Visual inspection only – no certificate is included).
Electrical equipment: operation, fuses, colour coding, lashings.
Navigation and communication equipment: on/off features will be assessed + clearly visible defects.
Other technical components: anchor winch, propeller shaft sealing, heating.
Safety equipment.
Osmosis/humidity measurement.
Hull thickness-measurement.
